Free Arts Minnesota Mural Event
1:00pm–5:00pm
On Saturday, March 27, Free Arts Minnesota, a local non-profit organization, is taking its inspiring artwork to the streets of Minneapolis to help raise awareness for National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. To kick off the campaign, Free Arts children and families will gather together to create colorful murals during a special event focused on the theme of "Healthy Families" at Midtown Global Market. One mural created by a local Minneapolis family at the event, which will be attended by local celebrities and sponsored by CBS Outdoor, will be selected by a panel of celebrity judges to be spotlighted in a bus mural all month long. The talented winning family will also receive a prize package. The month-long awareness campaign will bring 15 Free Arts-created murals to bus shelters throughout Minneapolis and St.Paul to raise awareness for child abuse and encourage people to make healthy choices as a family. The murals will be created between 12pm and 4pm in the Central Plaza and then judging will commence at 4pm.
Free Arts believes that creating art together is one of the many ways to keep families healthy. More than 6,000 Minnesota children are affected by child abuse each year. The negative impact of a Recession on families can make child abuse numbers increase. April has been National Child Abuse Prevention Month since 1983.
