Midtown Global Market will bring a taste of China to South Minneapolis when it hosts a Chinese New Year celebration on Friday, January 30, 2009, in conjunction with the Market's Friday Family Night. 

 

Beginning at 4 p.m., members from the Chinese Senior Citizens Society and the Chinese Heritage Foundation will be on hand for fortune telling and distributing red envelopes that help usher in good luck for the New Year. 

 

Children can take home a drawing of their name printed in traditional Chinese calligraphy.

 

A traditional Chinese lion dance will commence at 7 p.m., circling the Market with graceful movements and magnificent colors, to help ring in the year of the Ox.

 

5:00-8:00 pm FREE!  Please join us for family night every Friday night.  We will have live music, a children's play area, free balloons and we will put out crayons and coloring sheets appropriate for all ages.

Saturday mornings 9:00 am - 11:00 a.m.  FREE!  Anyone who wants to write is welcome.  Full information at writers.meetup.com/609 We, who would like to write very often, spend too much time thinking about writing.  This group serves to support you in actually writing.  We do it longhand.  Bring pen and paper and get ready for a really good time!  The group meets by the Lake Street windows across from the Fish Market.  Facilitator: Gaia Richards

Lake Street Council is holding a Home Based Business Resource Fair on Saturday, January 31! 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Midtown Global Market, 920 E. Lake St. It will give you a terrific chance to network with the home based business community as we network amongst ourselves. 

 

 Areas of interest include:

-How to Get a Good Start on Your Work Day - we'll have yoga instructors and life coaches available 

-Bookkeeping, Accounting and Taxes - we'll have representatives from the IRS

-We have asked local business supplies and services providers to join us - Office Max, Target and Kinko's 

 

Hot mixture of blues, boogie and rock n roll featuring Cadillac Kolstad's pulsing piano rhythms.

Stacy Halter is a Twin Cities area singer/songwriter with a sound that is somewhat similar to artists such as:  Sarah McLachlan, Colbie Caillat, Jewel, and the likes.  Her songs lean toward the pop/rock/folk genres with a touch of soul.  Stacy also enjoys sharing her renditions of your favorite popular songs in those same genres, and has been doing so for the past 8 years.
